Inspired by a true story, SKINDEEP is an animated short film that brings race-based trauma to the surface. it was co-written with Dr. Robert Carter ph.d. psychologist and professor of psychology and education at Columbia University and in partnership with Empowher NY and Ingrid Silva.
For the conception of this project, the creative direction (which includes The Youth, Yuca Duo, Edi and Pedro, Pastel & Besouro) has taken some important decisions to make this project not only relevant to the story but also to the process of production. The water has a strong symbolic appeal to portray the traumatic moments in this film. Following this premise, the film was hand-painted using watercolor, two thousand frames. After shooting all the watercolor works and editing every frame one after the other, it was projected and shot through an aquarium using the water as an analog effect on the movie during meaningful moments of the narrative.
